Benefits of Brown Rice OR unpolished rice

Brown rice is also called as unpolished rice. Now a day’s more often you will see polished rice in shops. Only in few shops you can get brown rice.

If you polish rice, Rice will lost all the nutrition content which is available in its outer layer. Outer layer will contain vitamin B. Recently my father went to mill and purchased paddy and milled.  In mill first brown rice will come after that brown rice will be sent to another machine which will remove outer layer of brown rice. You can see brown rice what we got this time. I am attaching normal rice photo also to easily identify color difference between these two.

Brown rice will taste good than polished rice. After cooking rice, you can clearly observe taste difference between brown rice and normal rice.

After cooking brown rice in electric cooker it will be like this

Cooking time: Brown rice will take more time to cook since this rice will have hard layer on top of it. So this rice will take more time to bake. For unpolished rice you need to pour more water also.

Usually normal rice will take double amount of water to cook (1:2). If you want to cook 1 glass of rice you need to pour 2 glass of water. In case if brown rice it will be 1:3, for one glass of brown rice you need to pour 3 glasses of water

Following are my observations about brown rice or unpolished rice

  • For digestion also it will take more time. You won’t feel hungry for a longer time 🙂
  • If you mix Ragi with unpolished rice and make ragi ball , it will be even more healthier food
  • Whatever you make with brown rice it will be tastier. For example in our family we always prepare Dosa floor with brown rice only. Because of its rich protein and fiber contents.
  • Prepare Dosa with brown rice floor. Taste will be much better than normal rice dosa. Brown rice dosa with chutney is a perfect combination 🙂 You should definitely try
  • If you prepare dosa with brown rice you can see color difference also
